Road Trip - New Hampshire
It was a full day of road-tripping through New Hampshire from Mt Washington and around the White Mountain Scenic Loop. Plenty of fall foliage, scenic mountain views, cute New England towns, and covered bridges.
Sights to See:
- Honeymoon Covered Bridge – in Jackson NH, built in 1876. You can still drive through it.
- Flossie’s General Store – a cute country gift shop next to the Honeymoon Covered Bridge
- Jackson Falls – a really cool series of rocky cascades on the Wildcat River in Jackson. Right off the road and easy to get to. Limited parking along the roadside.
- Mt Washington Auto Road – It is a very narrow 7-mile-long road of twists and turns that takes you to the top of Mt Washington (6200 feet) where there are some amazing views. It was pretty nerve wracking to drive so we only made it about 4200 feet before we turned around. Yep—we are chickens! It was $32 per person to drive your own car. We found out after that they also have a van that they will drive you up to the top for a 2 hour tour that is $57 per person.
- White Mountain Scenic Loop – It is a popular driving route through New Hampshire’s White Mountains, connecting to the Kancamagus Highway, known for its breathtaking mountain scenery, waterfalls, covered bridges, and classic New England towns. It’s one of the most beautiful drives in the northeastern U.S., especially in the fall when the foliage is spectacular. All the Fall colors were popping when we went.
- Bartlette Covered Bridge – This was a historic covered bridge along the scenic loop that was converted to a cute gift shop.
- Silver Cascades – Another rapid waterfall area right along the roadside on the scenic loop.
- Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway – This was a tram that takes you to the top of Cannon Mountain, 4000 feet. It was amazing!! (Note: We just found out that they retired the tramway on Oct 26, 2025 so it is currently closed, but they are planning to upgrade it and reopen at a future date.)
Restaurant: 99 Restaurant & Pub, Littleton, NH – Restaurant with wide menu options, from homecooked meals like pot-pies to steaks and burgers. Nice atmosphere and reasonable prices.
Hotel: Best Western White Mountain Inn, Franconia NH
