Road Trip - Vermont
Vermont is known for its picturesque landscapes and charming small towns. Since we were doing our road trip in the beginning of Fall, our route had to go down the Vermont Route 100 Scenic Drive starting in Stowe and going south to Londonderry. Vermont fall foliage was just slightly past peak so a little disappointing compared to New Hampshire but still beautiful. The drive was about 100 miles with a number of interesting sights to see along the way—it was all about the food and scenery.
Sights to See:
- Cabot Creamery – Waterbury VT – Vermont is a big dairy state and Cabot cheese is their famous brand. This store has a wide variety of their cheeses and other dairy products with lots of samples to taste. They also have some flavors that you don’t normally see in your grocery stores.
- Ben & Jerry Factory – Waterbury VT – We toured the Ben & Jerry’s factory. Tours are about 30 minutes where you watch a short film about how Ben & Jerry’s got started, then the tour guide takes you to a glass room that overlooks the factory and explains all the equipment and processes for making the ice cream, then you get to taste samples. and had samples of the Milk and Cookies Ice Cream Flavor (for breakfast). Yum!!! There is a nice gift shop and ice cream shop to buy whatever your want. There are a number of cute areas and backdrops for photos.
- Waitsfield (or Great Eddy) Covered Bridge – Waitsfield VT
- Warren Covered Bridge – Warren VT
- Moss Glen Falls – Granville VT – This is a small waterfall right near the roadway
- Green Mountain Sugar House – Ludlow VT – If you go to Vermont, you have to get maple syrup. This sugar house is where they make everything from maple syrup to mouth-watering maple fudge. It’s also a Vermont country gift shop
- Vermont Country Store – Weston VT – This is a true old country store. It has almost anything you can think of from candies to toys to housewares to clothing. It is very nostalgic—if there was a toy or gadget you remember from the 70s, they probably have it here. It is a huge store and you could spend a chunk of time just browsing.
Restaurants: We had lunch at Mildred’s Table restaurant at the Vermont Country Store in Weston. They specialize in homestyle comfort foods and they have the best grilled ham and Vermont cheese ever!!
Hotel: Since we were going from Vermont to Niagara Falls, we ended up stopping in Saratoga Springs NY for the night. Hotel Saratoga/Ascend Hotel 3291 S Broadway, Saratoga Springs NY
